Pretending to Be: The Northern Trust Company, a London, UK-based, real FCA authorized financial services company.
This unregistered and unregulated company tries to lure customers by looking and sounding similar to a real authorized financial institution.
This clone was recently reported on the FCA’s website (UK’s Financial Conduct Authority).
Red flags –
“Cloning” means they copy a real financial institution’s website, and try to make their copy look as real and genuine. It’s an extreme form of phishing. Most, if not all, consumers will run away from these websites if they notice that a website isn’t real. In this case, the URL address is very similar, only with a slight addition of “uk” in the domain name.
